With decreasing the thickness of the films from 50 to 10 nm or less, the film thickness becomes almost close to the mean free path of carrier electrons, a free distance where carrier electrons do not collide with other carrier electrons. One of the key points is the feasibility of a thin film growth system that enables film growth while maintaining the crystal structure and conductivity together with a decrease in the thickness. Assuming that the thin film structure can be divided into three parts: the surface, the interface with the substrate, and the bulk, we will discuss quantitatively how to manipulate the carrier electron transport properties. The focus of the discussion is to clarify the dominant factors that determine carrier transport. We will unravel the science of order, disorder and degenerate systems at the nano-scale.
